The cameras

The cameras. Police drones lift off precinct roofs and patrol-car roofs within a minute or two of a gunshot sensor firing. Plate readers keep every plate for years; gait and face matching run on every lobby camera. The system is powerful and wrong often enough that everyone has a story about the night it matched the wrong person.
