Neural chips. Implants from the 2030s for tremors, paralysis, focus, sleep, pain. The maker may be gone; the firmware drifts. Failure: a loop (a stuck hand, a phantom cursor, a word repeated, a coma when it is bad), cured by a reflash with leaked tools in a back room. A month's take for a reflash, more when it goes wrong. Some chips are switched off remotely when the subscription lapses.
