The shape of it
A low-level boss is a small business with no lawyers. Money comes in from corners, gets cut at every hand it passes through, and most of it goes out again before the boss can count it: the supplier, the debt, the dealers' cut, the doctor's bills, the bribes, the rent on the stash flat. A good week is one where the boss almost breaks even and nobody got hurt.
